Why Oh Why Must Bread Be So Seductively Good?

I know for a doggone fact that grains are not the proper food of mankind.  There must be some historical Faustican bargain going on here.  The truth of the matter is that when argriculture got going mankind began to be shorter and more diseased and with bad teeth.  I do think also, that bread is so seductive that making it and beer with grain, changed the course of planetary history. People developed towns and states and politics and power structures all for the sake of bread and beer, and greatly increased in fertility.  There began to be more busy little bread eating worker bees, rather than the relatively reflective shepherd or hunter, witness King David, et al.

I keep thinking about the Garden of Eden, in terms of leaving a nomadic herding/hunter/gatherer lifestyle and becoming tillers of the soil.  How does the Snake fit into this?  I can only fiddle with some ideas that might get me into trouble.

Why does the Bible refer to Jesus as the bread of life, not the steak?  Though blood is mentioned.  Does the Hebrew or Aramaic or Greek really say bread?  Or is it one of those things where the word could mean just food.

What is the lesson?  Is there a lesson?  Is it eat what is put before you with thanksgiving and stop being such a food wonk?

I still think that some of us from a more Neanderthal makeup would do better with the fruits of earth that don't require a carb burning metabolism.  In any case...no factory can make the stuff you need, that's the poison pill in modern life, or One of them.  If you just have to, I suppose it would be better if you made your own.

Another thing is, I have noticed over the years, that a lot of vegetarians get lazy and eat nothing much but bread.

hahahhahah!  Betcha didn't see that coming.  He wants to make bread with you
