Saying Goodbye To A Friend And A Summer

🍂

It used to be it happened occasionally. Now it seems to be coming on a rather regular basis. I'm speaking of the passing of friends and loved ones. But, I'm learning to avoid the word "dead" and to use the phrase "passed on." Saying it that way gives a pleasant, hopeful, and immortal ring, and is actually more representative of the truth.

As I was speaking with a friend last evening about the sudden passing of one of our childhood acquaintances, she was stuck in mortal mode, using the word "dead" to describe our companion. I just had to stop her and declare that what made our friend was soul and not body; that life unfolds and never ends; that we are beings who travel between places; that we have faces that change like the seasons; and that we live and move and have our being in one great Mind.

So instead of seeing sadness when that leaf turns from summer green to autumnal red, see it for what it is... God with us.

Good-bye means God be with you.
