Now To Turn About And Praise Tradition!

Over the centuries, I believe, tradition has actually been a life saver.   Tradition usually consists of the things that have worked and helped people survive, more or less, and depending upon circumstances, for the simple reason that if you did it wrong you might die.  Tradition on this level would be a self-perpetuating system.

Things like when to plant, how to preserve foods, ways to help in medical emergencies are obvious examples.  Just about any facet of life has been the stuff of tradition.  Traditions can be wrong too, but we knew that when we were teenagers!  "Gosh!" H/T Napoleon Dynomite.

Also, some traditions are just for fun.  I have no ironclad beef with that and it's not my business to pass judgement.  Spring and harvest and winter festivals have their descendants among us in the forms of Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas....in addition to the Jewish holidays at the same approximate times.

Despite their obvious religious content, they break up the year and help make sense of the rhythms of life.

Nothing is wrong at all with a feast or a party.  It augments connections among people, warms the heart, it makes us happy.  It seems to have something to do with how people work together.

And just because it is my Christmas tradition, even though it really has nothing to do with Christmas!  How I do love a bit of bombast!  Best played loud.  Your neighbors are gonna love this!

It's the orignal version, looking a little shabby tonight.
