A Painting and Open Thread

Girl with a hay rake. Winslow Homer 1878

Long Branch, New Jersey. Winslow Homer 1869

A concise history of the painter's life and work, if you are interested.

Boys in a dory.  Winslow Homer 1873

Until I decided to look into his works a little deeper, I had thought of him as primarily a painter of marine scenes. Not so!  A nice surprise are all the beautiful watercolors of figures, giving a real sense of the years in America after the Civil War.
