I Had An Idea.

What do you think about this?

When I was waking from my nap today a story suggested itself to me.

This may be all you ever hear of it, so it goes like this....
Once, long ago in the ancient world, there was a battle between some force analogous to Rome's army and an indigenous population.  Probably it was in the UK somewhere.
The story begins after the battle is over.  The dead and dying of the invading forces lie scattered about the landscape.  Not too many.  It wasn't a big famous battle.
A physician and his helpers go about assessing the condition of the wounded.  They are deciding who will recover and who will not. They take the salvageable wounded back to camp to be cared for.  Those they deem bound to die they leave on the grass to perish as they will.
(I haven't done any research yet as to whether anything like this was ever done. But in fableland anything might be done.)
When the doctor and his men are done gathering up those deemed able to survive, an indigenous girl comes onto the scene to walk among the wounded.  She comes upon our main character, whom the doctor has pronounced doomed.  He doesn't look that bad to her.  He has a wound to his belly but she thinks that it's not in a fatal location. She feels some urgency because the ravens are gathering.
She is filled with pity for him and decides to save him.  Reasons crowd my mind.
As Sam said, that is the scaffolding to hang a narrative on. I ran it by him, of course!
It was so clear and believable to me.  You can imagine the difficulties.
