I have been thinking over the last couple of days about the article linked below by ELIEZER YUDKOWSKY about the rapid development of this mad rush to AI overtaking all facets of life. The article is linked below.
Pausing AI Developments Isn't Enough. We Need to Shut it All Down
Without that precision and preparation, the most likely outcome is AI that does not do what we want, and does not care for us nor for sentient life in general. That kind of caring is something that could in principle be imbued into an AI but we are not ready and do not currently know how.
Absent that caring, we get “the AI does not love you, nor does it hate you, and you are made of atoms it can use for something else.”
The likely result of humanity facing down an opposed superhuman intelligence is a total loss. Valid metaphors include “a 10-year-old trying to play chess against Stockfish 15”, “the 11th century trying to fight the 21st century,” and “Australopithecus trying to fight Homo sapiens“.
To visualize a hostile superhuman AI, don’t imagine a lifeless book-smart thinker dwelling inside the internet and sending ill-intentioned emails. Visualize an entire alien civilization, thinking at millions of times human speeds, initially confined to computers—in a world of creatures that are, from its perspective, very stupid and very slow. A sufficiently intelligent AI won’t stay confined to computers for long. In today’s world you can email DNA strings to laboratories that will produce proteins on demand, allowing an AI initially confined to the internet to build artificial life forms or bootstrap straight to postbiological molecular manufacturing.

My son's point of view is this:
I sometimes wonder if any of these peeps think that they can force G-d's hand by breaking the world hard enough. I suppose it's an interesting notion, but not one i'd intentionally pursue.
Regardless, i think Yudkowsky is too late. Even if heads of state decided to listen to him and bomb all the datacenters and semiconductor factories today, there's enough hardware already existing to build a comparable distributed AI. There will be some challenges getting the systems working together but the result will be more resilient and inscrutable. Rumor is that GPT4 was trained on 25K A100's -- Alexander's video card has more GPU than an A100 and there are millions of cards like his in the hands of gamers all over the US. Just need to hook them together. To stop that, they'd need to get rid of electricity & the internet.
(He was right about Y2K. He said it would be nothing, and it was.

I really have a hard time believing the current crop are able to truly become intelligent, although I will agree with one of the implications of Judkowsky's arguments: any suitably advanced emulation of sentience is indistinguishable from the danger of the real thing. Those inscrutable arrays may barf up some incredibly life-like patterns, but until it can self-train, i don't see it coming alive.
He speaks after a life long career in this sort of thing.

It seems to me that we should decide what we believe. Is this man insane? Is he just wrong? Is he some kind of infernal fear monger? What is his game?

So, anyhow, you know me, I'm trying to imagine a way to hide from such a monstrosity. How to be invisible to it. Perhaps it would not be possible. But then, today, we read about this possibility, h/t LoneStar,:

God does this at the highest level, while you and I do it at the “human level”. According to the false LOA, it’s just you here, making everything happen; but, in actuality, we are all participating in the manifestation process together. If the entire creation process is mitigated by language itself, it stands to follow that the more skilled you are with language, the more powerfully you can influence the process of creation. It’s entirely possible that you could “out-manifest” another mind by simply being more coherent than them in your thinking.
But, maybe there is a way?
