All y'all know how I love words. Heh. Well I have been thinking on the process of materializing words. If that's the way to put it.
It works going in and going out. If we say a thing, say a prayer or a verse it becomes realer to us. It solidifies it. If you commit a bit of text to memory, saying it out loud it becomes part of you. If you say your prayers out loud, well, the devil hears them and scampers away, but also you hear them and they become more than misty formless thoughts that don't involve your investment in their meaning.
It can work inter-personally too, if I think "I love you" all day. Well, there's no investment there. Still hedging bets in a way. But, if I say audibly "I love you", boy that's an investment and a real vulnerability.
And yet, I must laugh a bit here. The nature of web-logging is the most ephemeral of written words. Electronic ghosts on a monitor screen.
I do say the things I write as I write them to see if they make sense, to see if I mean them, to try not to fudge.
The funny things is, the words that I wrote just now, are similar to, but not exactly what I was thinking of saying. But, there they are. They have their own existence now.
At the same time, I am using solid, flesh and materiel as shorthand terms. Because we don't have words to reflect the physics of real reality. So bear with me. lol
We all know where we were that morning. Its a day forever embedded in memory. Each Sept 11 reminds us. In 2009 that day, we were on a cruise, of all things, going to Alaska, or coming back. Not sure which.
We were asleep. In those days I often had one earbud in, listening to my radio station. I was dozing and I noticed Peter Jennings saying something. That got my attention, because he was never on my station. I began to listen and heard the story begin. I think at that point it was just the first plane.
We used to have a tv. I leapt up, ran out to the tv and switched it on. I yelled at Bird, "wake up, we're under attack"...and that day began like that.
I called my son at work. They hadn't heard yet...and fumbled with their tv and computers there...
The point that wasn't remote for us is that our daughter had been in Japan on a Fullbright and was in the air coming home. Right then. How she finally made it home a few days later after they landed in Canada is a long story of its own. But she did get home, to NYC.
One year it was Colorado, but always noted in passing. A day like a wound. In fact, a wound.
There is not music that really fits, so here is Tom Waits singing about blue skies. There was a really blue sky that day. I remember that.Something is always forgotten and something is always left in a hotel room never to be seen again.
I try not to bring everything needed to restart civilization along on a ten day drive. But I have forgotten a toothbrush, chargers, my password book....
Then there is the thing I leave in the hotel room. Usually a charger. Or a wall wart as my dangerous girl calls them. This time I will have a laptop, which I don't usually bother to bring and a gopro, which I have not learned to use yet, because it wasn't mine. We will really have to be careful with the bits and pieces.

Perhaps I will try something I haven't done before. That is, making reports by Youtube videos. Its very easy to do with the iPhone, in all its monsterousness. Its practically automatic.
I am not sure what you do with gopro video to put it online, but we will take the book with us, along with all the daughter's map books and etc.
Hope we don't meet any rattlesnakes. I'm sorry I neglected getting my CCP. Oh well.
Would like to see some rough weather!
As you have perhaps surmised, I have been buns deep in wildcats since Sept. of 1970. Well, actually, surrounded by young things of the humanoid persuasion. This has been the cause of a lot of cartoon watching. Children seem to require cartoons. Had nuthin to do with me. Nope.
By the time there were grandchildren, one of the favorites was Dexter's Laboratory! See, he had this blond ditz of an older sister who was always messing around in his secret underground lab.
I thought of her this morning as I was reflecting on my recent run-in with disqus. I begin to perceive the shape of what happened. I learned some bitter lessons. Part of it is a vocabulary lack. Half the time I don't know what they are using their words for. Specialist language.
But I pushed the buttons anyhow. I'm not a blond, but I can be a reckless ditz. This must be my official apology for losing our history of yakking together. Sigh. I still insist disqus did something weird first!

Nevertheless, we must persist, h/t MM! lol. Every darn thing is grist for the mill!
